My mission is to create beautiful environments and design homes that reflect a lifestyle. I believe whether you are styling an individual or a home, the same principles apply.
However, there is a distinct difference between home staging and interior design. Staging is an effective marketing strategy and needs to be designed in a way to attract a large pool of buyers who can envision themselves living there. While, Interior Design is very specific and tailored to the homeonwer's style.
Growing up in Chicago with a mother who was a stylist and constantly redesigning our home, I never knew what to expect when I walked in the door. Whether she was styling a customer for an event or redesigning our home, she was adept at mixing textures, patterns, colors and style. This is something I am happy to say that I inherited.
Architectural Digest and Better Homes & Gardens were always lying around our house. Little did I know that I would end up later working for these Publishing companies. Each magazine I represented provided an education that I draw from today. From small business owners at Entrepreneur Magazine to being inspired by 40+ women at More Magazine, and learning about cross shopping at Mademoiselle. Mixing high and low price points and styles is a skill that I have transferred to my design business.
However, being a part of the launch team at Men's Vogue allowed me to work on the most iconic fashion brand. Our editor taught me that style is defined by how you live, where you travel, the music you enjoy and the way you incorporate fashion trends into your life. This resonated with me. Whenever I travel, I drive through different neighborhoods to get a feel for the lifestyle as I have a sincere curiosity to see how people live. I search for open houses and get excited to take a tour so I can see how people design their homes.
This passion lead to my first design project, an out dated town home I found through an open house. It had great bones and a unique layout. I had a vision and committed to remodeling it. My next project came unexpectedly from a colleague of mine at House & Garden Magazine. What started as some suggestions ended up with me redesigning her home. This fueled my passion and ultimately became the catalyst for
Kreiter HomeStyling.
